Introducing Leather

For some time, my books have been primarily duct tape. That was great to start out with, but now it's time for something really fun...

I really enjoy working with leather. It's so soft, smells nice, and looks great.

I've been working for a little while on adding some diversity to my shop. Originally I was going to delve into making bookcloth with my own fabric, but that attempt...let's just say it didn't go so well. Then I found some great leather at a really good price. So priorities switched from bookcloth to leather. I still plan on doing the bookcloth thing, but one thing at a time. It's still a goal I will shoot for - just later.

This style of bookbinding is often refered to as "limp binding". Limp because it using just the leather as covers, as opposed to hardcover books were the bookcloth or fancy paper is applied to the bookboard to form the case for the text. I quite enjoy this type of binding as there are so many variations on the closures and the feel of the leather is just incredible.

So check out these new selections at my shop!
