My First Year (Anniversary)

 Wow, it's been a year.

This is the point where most people say "it's gone by so fast", but that's not my feelings.

It's been quite the year.

When I started this business (one year ago) I really had no idea where I would be the next year (now). We had recently come back from 2 years in Australia and were in the process of applying for another visa.

We were also living at my in-laws....in a very small bedroom....

To make a long story short, we decided that Winnipeg was home after all, moved into a temporary place for the summer, then moved again, and now we are in the process of moving (once again) to a more permanent home (hopefully for the next few years). Can we say I'm sick of moving?

Through it all (more or less) I slowly built up my little business.

I started with simple duct tape. Partly to do something different, partly because we didn't know which country we were going to be living in and duct tape is easier to pack up and move with.

I then moved into leather (soft cover, limp binding) , and introduced funky coloured duct tape to my books.

RFID blocking credit card sleeves came next, and they are my most popular item, both online and at events.

Just recently I've been playing with retro floppy disks, using the disks as the book covers.

It took about 6 months for me to get my first sale (so don't get discouraged if your just starting out your own business),  but things have started to pick up recently. I've done two craft sales (okay, 3 if you count my first one, which I usually don't) with hopes of doing many more! I was even able to make a donation before the end of the year (which is the purpose of my shop).

With January still being fresh (in my mind anyways) and "new years" resolutions, I waited until now to make my "resolutions", or in other words, my goals for this next year of business.

1. Coming soon... I will be releasing my newest item!

2. Since #1 is already almost complete, my main goal this year is to figure out how to make my own bookcloth. Let's just say I attempted it last year...with not so stellar results. That's why it's a purposeful goal for this year.

3. And all the little stuff that we need to do anyway...be more on top of actually listing my items on Etsy...create more daily...that sort of thing.

Not very demanding on myself am I? I look forward to what this next year will bring. I'm sure there will be lots that I'm not expecting, so I can't be too demanding can I? Otherwise I might miss what may come naturally.
